FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
RESCUE INC. RECEIVES $15,000 GRANT FROM THOMPSON TRUST
BRATTLEBORO, VT. – March 26th, 2009 – Rescue Inc.,
the Brattleboro based, non-profit emergency care provider, announced
today that the Thomas Thompson Trust has awarded a $15,000 capital
improvement grant to the agency. The grant, which requires Rescue
Inc. to raise matching funds, will be utilized to help pay for the
purchase of a replacement ambulance slated to be placed into service
this fall.
Speaking in reference to the grant, Thomas Thompson Trust Senior
Trustee William Tyler said, "The Trustees of the Thompson Trust
are pleased to support Rescue Inc.'s valuable initiatives which
will enable it to continue providing its much needed quality care
and service to the greater Brattleboro Community."
Rescue Board Chairman Rick Hege said, “On behalf of the Board
and the entire agency, I wish to extend my deepest thanks to the
Thompson Trust for their continued support of Rescue’s mission
in the community. The grant will make a measurable difference in
our ability to fund this crucial capital improvement.”
Regarding Rescue’s campaign to raise the matching funds,
Hege added, “We hope that residents and local businesses will
contribute whatever they can this spring to help us meet our $15,000
matching commitment, and we encourage and welcome contributions
of any size.”
The purchase and maintenance of Rescue’s ambulance fleet
comprises a key element in the agency’s ongoing capital planning.
Rescue Inc. Chief Of Operations Mark Considine explained, “Rescue’s
six ambulances each log an average of about 40,000 miles per year
over the extremely demanding terrain within fourteen member towns.
Needless to say, the readiness of the ambulances is a top priority
and as a result, we are constantly looking at how to maximize efficiencies
in rotating out older units.”
With the cost of a new ambulance running in the $150,000 range,
Rescue management has determined that the purchase of refurbished
vehicles provide a winning business strategy for the agency since
the costs savings can be significant, both initially and over the
useful life of the vehicle. “The ambulance likely to be purchased
with the Thompson grant will be our third refurbished ambulance,”
explains Linda Goss, Chief of Financial Operations. “These
vehicles are proving to be an exceptionally good investment for
us, and the savings realized is passed directly to our member towns.”
